Elias is the editorial director of The New York Times in Spanish, where he oversees all aspects of the web platform, including the selection of articles to be translated, audience growth strategy, the development of original reporting and daily coverage by the editorial team based in Mexico City. He has been part of The New York Times since 2007. He was the editor for the international section specialized in Latin America, and one of the directors of Room for Debate, a digital forum in the Opinion section. Between 2003 and 2007 he worked as a reporter and editor at The Miami Herald. He graduated as a journalist at Florida International University and was selected for the Kiplinger Fellowship in digital journalism from Ohio University in 2015. Elias is Venezuelan and currently resides in Mexico .
