José Luis Ortiz Robles is from Mexico. He has always been convinced that the knowledge and abilities one acquires in life must be used to improve the life conditions of those who need it most. Leaning on the knowledge that communities have about their natural surroundings, he designed a project with his friends from college to reduce water pollution in his state. With time, the project grew and now the team has created an innovative and sustainable technology to clean residual water using three life forms: plants, worms and microorganisms. C-Plantae’s work has been recognized nationally and internationally by NGOs, government agencies, academic institutions and even private enterprises such as Walmart, Banorte, CEMEX, among others. Last year, the international organization VIVA Trust named them the second best environmental startup in Latin America, in San José, Costa Rica. Their work has contributed to the conservation of protected natural areas, RAMSAR sites, communities and urban areas with high levels of hydric stress. Their water treatment plants clean 17 thousand liters of water every day in a sustainable way. Website: https://www.facebook.com/CPlanta
