Alicia is currently working towards her master's degree at MIT, where she studies engineering, design, and business. She is the co-founder of Bloomer Tech and the first Costa Rican to graduate from Singularity University on a Google scholarship for the Global Solutions Program. She worked as a Hardware Engineer in the ASICs team (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) at the Ramp;D of Hewlett Packard Networking. Previously, she was Engineer of Field Applications in Teradyne. She was part of the organizing team and Director of Streaming at the first 3 editions of TEDxPuraVidaJoven. She has 9 years of experience generating initiatives for Women in Tech, Grupo MenTe and MenTe en Acción in Monterrey, MenTe en Acción and in the National Network of MenTe in Costa Rica along with the collaborative community Ideas in Action, combining ideas generated in TEDxPuraVidaJoven and her commitment to increase diversity in the technology industry. She has a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology by Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, with a specialization in Digital Systems. She was born and raised in Costa Rica, with Peruvian roots. Bloomer Tech builds washable and flexible circuits that integrate seamlessly into clothing to capture cardiac and respiratory parameters, activity levels and other general body metrics through sensors. Its first creation aims to fill the gaps of information about women’s heart health with a product that integrates into women’s brassieres to learn about their cardiovascular and respiratory systems, allowing for meaningful data to be collected, analyzed and made accessible to users, doctors and medical professionals for personalized healthcare.
